Why is the mayor abandoning the mission of protecting the public?
In response to the Daily News story about Mayor Nutter's statements in regard to welcoming predatory gambling:
What happened to protecting the general public from the ill effects of individual behaviors like smoking in bars, restaurants and other public places? Mayor Nutter championed the ban on smoking to mitigate the dangers of second hand smoke. Why abandon this mission of public protection when it comes to predatory gambling and its second hand effects? In addition, where are the studies that will clearly show the cost of the slots parlors to the taxpayer? Revenue from gaming is one side of the equation what is the cost. Show us the cost. Prove to the general public that bringing predatory gambling to any neighborhood in the city will produce enough revenue to merit the cost in real dollars lost to local businesses, in programs to assist those who fall into an addiction and to aiding the families of losers.
