Your Heroic Neighbors On Trial

Casino-Free Philadelphia's mission is to stop casinos from coming to Philadelphia and close any that open. The social and economic costs of predatory gambling are plainly apparent from an industry reliant on addiction to survive. Learn more about predatory gambling.

Last September, 14 Philly residents lined the entrance to the SugarHouse construction site on the Delaware River and refused to move. Today, Tuesday, Feb. 16, these individuals are standing before a judge and defending their First Amendment rights.

Latest Update:

We can do it!

Because of the hard work you have done to expose the predatory tactics of the gambling industry, the Foxwoods casino project has been falling apart for months. When Vegas gambling tycoon Steve Wynn wanted to take over the project, our vocal opposition to his indifference for our community pushed him out of town.

Now it's time to do it again.

Harrah's Entertainment, the largest gambling company in the country, wants to take over Foxwoods -- and we must stop them. We can only do it with your support.

Please make a contribution to Casino-Free Philadelphia to ensure a Harrah's-Free Philadelphia.

Continues to Ignore Public Opposition to Predatory Casino in Any Form
April 29, 2010

Amidst more than two dozen Philadelphians calling out “revoke, don’t rebid,” the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s enforcement arm today filed a complaint to revoke the license of Foxwoods casino in South Philadelphia. Despite its direct impact on citizens of Philadelphia, questions from the public were neither solicited nor accepted by the board.

Foxwoods will have 30 days to respond to the PGCB’s complaint, at which point additional hearings will be scheduled, from which public input will continue to be excluded.

Into the Red: Bankrupting Casinos Before They Bankrupt Us

For the last three years we have prevented construction of two "inevitable" casinos through creative campaigns and direct action. We will continue to stop the two proposed casinos with your help. Sign the Casino-Free Pledge.

Casino-Free Philadelphia's In the Red campaign aims to persuade casino investors Neil G. Bluhm (of SugarHouse) and Ronald Rubin (of Foxwoods) to abandon their plans for casinos in Philadelphia.
