What a difference a year makes
Over a year ago, the Philadelphia Inquirer's Editorial Editor wrote a scathing rebuke to citizens asking for greater input in casinos. He called our efforts "depressing." He used all the tired expressions -- "done deal" and "that train done gone and left the station."
Well the train has backed up and is shifting into reverse.
What a difference a year of hard work makes.
The Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial Board wrote of a vastly different story yesterday. They support SugarHouse and Foxwoods resiting to locations further away from neighborhoods, writing:
Meanwhile in Philadelphia, the two planned casinos were licensed a year ago, but are nowhere near enticing their first customer. In the short term at least, the city's two casinos remain long shots. Neither Foxwoods nor the SugarHouse casino has any immediate prospect of getting city approvals to build any time soon. Despite winning the city Planning Commission's approval of its development, SugarHouse is no closer than Foxwoods to getting City Council's required blessing.
While slandering us a year ago, they are now acknowledging our success at shifting the political winds.
Read the entire Philadelphia Inquirer editorial online. While you're at it, take a look at Satullo's inability to model great expectations when he attacks citizens asking for more transparency in his September 2006 article.
