Join us to celebrate Casino-Free's birthday!

Fireworks in Philly

Since a September 2006 editorial in the Philadelphia Inquirer claimed that casinos in Philadelphia were a "done deal," local reporters, politicians, pundits and pessimists have been trying to tell us that our fight against predatory gambling is futile.

Yet, because of our hard work, SugarHouse was forced to delay it's opening for a year and its expansive design for 10,000 slot machines was shrunk to 1,700.

Because of you, Foxwood's casino license is on the road to being revoked, and we are one step closer to having one less casino in our city.

Because of you, Vegas gambling mogul Steve Wynn was too scared to take us on, and fled Philly with his tail between his legs.

Because of you, 14 of our brothers and sisters had the support they needed to blockade the entrance to SugarHouse and be arrested -- and acquitted -- for their actions.

And because of you, Casino-Free is bigger and better than ever and ramping up for even bigger events to come -- including presenting a workshop at the US Social Forum and helping run a Stop Predatory Gambling National Campaign kickoff event in Philadelphia in the fall.

So join us for a drink at Johnny Brenda's next Tuesday, June 1, at 6:30 PM, and celebrate Casino-Free's fourth birthday. Johnny Brenda's has been a longtime supporter of Casino-Free, and is one of the amazing local businesses who would be hurt by the 24/7 operations of a casino.
